The IACC Council
The IACC Council, responsible for the oversight of the International Anti-Corruption Conference series, was established in September 1996, with Transparency International as its Secretariat. The main responsibilities of the Council are to provide advice and assistance to the host country of each conference and to ensure that each conference is conducted in accordance with the IACC guiding principles
namely, "...to stimulate the global exchange of experience and methodology in controlling corruption and foster international cooperation among citizens and institutions from all parts of the world".
The Council and TI contributed greatly to the success and follow-up of the 8th Conference in Lima, the 9th Conference in Durban, the 10th Conference in Prague, Czech Republic and the 11th Conference in Seoul in May 2003.
Both are now providing support for the preparation of the 12th IACC which will take place in Guatemala from 15 to 18 of November, 2006. The objectives of the IACC as stated in the Guidelines, are "...to stimulate the global exchange of experience and methodology in controlling corruption and foster international cooperation among citizens and institutions from all parts of the world".
Transparency International – the Secretariat
Transparency International (TI) acts as the Secretariat to the IACC Council and to the Programme Committee of each conference. Through the IACC Council, TI provides advice and assistance to the host country of the conference. TI is also responsible for the preparation and implementation of the conference programme. This includes communication with a wide range of leading organisations and individuals involved in anti-corruption work worldwide, collection and collation of programme suggestions, preparation of the conference’s plenary sessions and workshops. Additionally TI provides support to the host country with marketing issues, provides advice on logistics and makes efforts to raise funds for the participating delegates.
Government of Guatemala
The Government of Guatemala, headed by President Oscar Berger, has agreed to host the 12th IACC in 2006. With the Government of Guatemala‘s demonstrated interest in fighting corruption, Guatemala is an ideal venue for this important international forum.
